Waste Free (NUDE) Lunches
Every Monday, students are encouraged to bring a completely waste free lunch. Students who do so are rewarded with a faction point. We strongly encourage parents to do away with plastic wrap and find sustainable ways of wrapping school lunches.
Solar Panels & Rain Water Tank
Teaching children the value of our fossil fuels and preservation of water as a precious and dwindling resource is achieved by using solar panels and our rain water tank.
Students from Kindy to Year 6 are taught how to separate their waste. Leftover fruit and vegetable matter go through a series of stages to end up as compost.
Suitable waste is fed to the worms and wonderfully rich "worm juice" is available to fertilise our school gardens.
All waste is separated at the school into paper, newspaper, cardboard, aluminium, plastic, toner & cartridge and corks. In addition to this, students are encouraged to bring in their aluminium cans in exchange for faction points along with tooth care products, batteries and mobile phones.
We have a collection of fruiting trees and a butterfly garden in the orchard beside the rain water tank.
In an effort to encourage student participation and education, each class nominates two Eco Rangers per term. The Rangers are given the responsibility of class room recycling and tending to the school compost project. They are involved in two lunchtime meetings while in the position. to participate in sustainability discussion.
